Genene Nisbet has provided bereavement counseling services for over 25 years. She joined the staff of Owen Funeral Home in 1996 as their Bereavement Services Specialist. Preceding this, she coordinated the bereavement program and served as a chaplain for Hospice of Hope in Maysville, Kentucky. She engages with people through counseling theory, her understanding of theology, and what she has learned through serving bereaved individuals and families. She leads community grief support groups for the loss of a spouse and for the loss of a child by death. She also provides individual and family counseling for those served by Owen Funeral Homes.
As she serves individuals and families, she is guided by the belief that God can work through the difficulties of our lives, transforming and redeeming our pain. Her goal is to help individuals and families adjust to their loss so they can live more fully.
Genene holds a B. S. in Educational Psychology from the University of Louisville and a Master's of Divinity in Pastoral Care and Counseling from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She is ordained as a minister and is also a Licensed Kentucky Pastoral Counselor. She also is Certified in Thanatology through the Association of Death Education and Counseling and approved as an ACPE Psychotherapist member with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.
